Don't Skimp on Comic Book Storage

by Candace Right

When it comes to a valuable comic book collection, there are lots of different ways you can store it. Comic book storage is really quite versatile.

The key things to remember are to keep them in containers that are specially made for that purpose, to preserve the paper. Whatever you use to store paper or cardboard needs to be archive quality, that is acid-free and lignin free. Storage devices made from plastic must be PVC-free.

You should also store your collection away from direct light, preferably in a climate controlled environment. Please don't put your comic books up in your attic or shed!

Now, there are many kinds of storage containers available for comic books. Most comic books will be perfectly find slipped inside individual plastic sleeves or acid-free resealable bags. If your comic is especially valuable and special, though, you might want to consider a plastic box made especially for comic book storage. If there are any adhesives involved in sealing these bags, you must make absolutely sure that the tape doesn't touch the books.

Plastic comic book boxes can be found at collectibles shops or storage and organization stores. Then there are the Mylar comic book sleeves that have treated cardboard backing. This makes the sleeve much more sturdy and helps keep the comic book in perfect condition.

Now then, assuming you've stored all your most valuable books in individual containers, it's time to consider how to store the rest of your collection. There are many boxes you can buy online or at comic book shops, and they generally come in two sizes - short ones hold about 100 books, and the longer ones hold about 300 comic books.

When you store your comic books, you may want to give some thought as to how you want to organize them. The most common way to organize comic books is by title, then in chronological order based on the date of publication. Whether you want to read them in the future or sell them, you'll be able to quickly and easily find any comic book you want in an organized comic book storage system.
